Education and Background:
Dr. McCreery earned her
doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from Michigan State
University. She holds a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology
from Michigan State University and a Bachelor’s degree from the
University of Michigan. She completed a clinical internship at
the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Seattle, Washington. As
a licensed clinical psychologist, she participates in a variety
of ongoing continuing education opportunities and has
specialized additional training and education in the areas of
eating disorders, depression, trauma recovery, and relationship
difficulties.
Dr. McCreery has worked in
the mental health field since 1988. She has held various
positions at Catholic Community Services here in Bellingham and
has worked in inpatient psychiatric settings with both adults
and adolescents in Virginia, Washington and Michigan. She has
provided individual and group psychotherapy and psychological
evaluation in a variety of hospital and community settings, with
adults of all ages. Dr. McCreery has been in private practice
in Whatcom County since 1995.
Treatment Philosophy:
Dr. McCreery provides both
long and short-term psychotherapy. Dr. McCreery works with
clients to identify areas of distress and to articulate
individualized goals of treatment. While focusing on changes in
the present, she tends to emphasize the importance of past and
present relationships and one’s personal history in the
development and resolution of psychological problems. Dr.
McCreery works in a variety of ways to provide focused symptom
relief, enduring and enhanced coping skills, and behavior
change.
